2:21Now PlayingFrench President Emmanuel Macron hailed Queen Elizabeth II's "wisdom and empathy" that has "helped us all," and her intimate knowledge of French as he mourned her death on Friday.
Macron said no other foreign sovereign had visited the French presidential palace more often than Elizabeth, who had known all eight presidents of contemporary France.
Addressing citizens of the UK and the Commonwealth, Macron said "To you, she was your Queen. To us, she was the Queen. To us all, she would be with us forever. We will remember and perpetuate the values she never ceased to embody and promote: the moral fortitude of democracy and freedom."
Britain’s historic rival and contemporary ally France lowered flags at the presidential palace and public buildings to half-staff in honor of Queen Elizabeth II who died at the age of 96.
