Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was exuberant after Senate incumbent Raphael Warnock's victory in the Georgia runoff, saying "all good things come to those who wait."

Schumer told reporters at the U.S. Capitol Wednesday in a press conference to highlight Democratic Senator Warnock's defeat over Republican challenger Herschel Walker in a neck-to-neck race, "it is a good morning."

Adding, "they say all good things come to those who wait. And this outcome is absolutely worth the wait."

The victory by the state's first Black senator ensures Democrats an outright majority in the chamber for the rest of President Joe Biden's current term.

That means that Democrats won't have to negotiate a power-sharing deal with Republicans and that Vice President Kamala Harris won't be called on as frequently to break tie votes.

"The practical effects of the 51 seat majority. It's big. It's significant. It gives us... we can breathe a sigh of relief," Schumer said.

"Obviously, judges and nominees will be a lot easier to put on the bench," he added. "It's one of the most significant things, maybe the most even, things we've done."

Warnock told jubilant supporters Tuesday night it was his honor "to utter the four most powerful words ever spoken in a democracy: The people have spoken."

Schumer said the results of Tuesday's race "shows that Americans believe in democracy," he said. "The roots of democracy are deep. This 200-plus-year noble experiment is not a fluke. It's hanging around for a long time as long as we fight for it. And we'll continue to do that."
