The US added 517,000 jobs in January, nearly triple the estimate of economists, and the unemployment rate fell to the lowest since 1969. The blockbuster report sent stocks tumbling because it signaled a persistent inflation fight that could lead the Fed to keep rates higher for longer.
But the strong jobs report has spurred worries about additional inflation, leading to a market selloff. Biden said he took no blame for the high inflation which has bedeviled American consumers and said his administration was making progress on that front.
