as posted by the channelNATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday said he hoped Ukraine would move "closer" to joining the alliance as members meet for talks at a summit in Lithuanian later this week.
Speaking in Vilnius ahead of the two-day summit set to begin on Tuesday, Stoltenberg outlined the major points leaders would be discussing, along with announcing a new plans to bolster forces in the region.
He said talks would be held over three new plans "backed by 300 troops on high readiness and major capabilities across all domains".
"We will strengthen our deterrence and defence including with more investment," he stressed as he stood alongside Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.
The summit starting Tuesday with U.S. President Joe Biden and other NATO leaders will be the most high-profile international event that Lithuania has hosted since it joined the alliance in 2004, with some hoping it would be of historic significance.
