0:32Now PlayingU.S. President Joe Biden wrapped up a visit to Vietnam on Monday, after meeting with Vietnamese government officials and business leaders and spotlighting new deals and partnerships between the two countries.
Biden sat down with President Vo Van Thuong, who hosted the U.S. president for a formal state luncheon. Biden has described himself as being part of the “Vietnam generation” although he did not serve in a war. He also called Vietnam “a friend, a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community.”
He noted that veterans such as John Kerry, his climate czar, and the late John McCain, a Vietnam POW and Republican senator from Arizona, found ways to build a relationship with Vietnam after the war.
