YouTube Description
as posted by the channelUS Secretary of State Antony Blinken on November 8 called for a unified Gaza and West Bank entity under Palestinian control, and said the US opposes both the forcible displacement of Palestinians and any reoccupation of Gaza when the conflict ends.
Blinken made the remarks in Tokyo after attending talks with other G7 foreign ministers.
Blinken rejected calls for a ceasefire, arguing that it would result in Hamas being “left in place, with more than 200 hostages, with the capacity and stated intent to repeat October 7th,” and instead called for allies to set conditions and frameworks to achieve “sustained peace” in the region.
“The United States believes key elements should include no forcible displacement of Palestinians from Gaza – not now, not after the war. No use of Gaza as a platform for terrorism or other violent attacks. No reoccupation of Gaza after the conflict ends. No attempt to blockade or besiege Gaza. No reduction in the territory of Gaza. We must also ensure no terrorist threats can emanate from the West Bank,” Blinken said.
The post-conflict period in Gaza “must include Palestinian-led governance and Gaza unified with the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority,” he said.
