0:17Now PlayingA Turkish legislator who suffered a heart attack after giving a speech in parliament is in “extremely critical and serious” condition, according to Turkey’s state-run news agency. Video from Turkey’s grand national assembly shows Hasan Bitmez, 53, collapsing after speaking for 22 minutes.
His speech was in part critical of the ruling party AKP’s relationship with Israel, according to local media reports. Bitmez had a sign on the podium which read ‘Murderer Israel, Collaborator AKP.’ Bitmez is a member of parliament from the Islamist Saadet Partisi, or Felicity Party.
The party’s leader said Bitmez collapsed after suffering a heart attack, hitting his head when he fell, according to reports by Anadolu Agency. Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said the legislator, whose condition he described as “extremely serious and critical,” was being treated in intensive care and is hooked up to a cardiopulmonary bypass machine, according to comments carried by Anadolu.
