In the event of war, South Korea would be destroyed, Kim said, and the US will suffer "an unimaginably crushing defeat", Kim said.
While North Korea regularly use very strong language and threats of doom to its enemies, relations with South Korea are at a new low, and this week's parliament meeting announced drastic steps to dismantle three main organisations that Pyongayng has used to pursue cooperation with Seoul.
Kim even said that a monument on the outskirts of Pyongyang, promoting the North's aspiration for reunification of the Korean Peninsula, should be knocked down. Kim also used a large part of his speech to draw attention to the "great disparity of living standards between the capital city and provinces and between towns and the countryside." North Koreans have long struggled to get enough to eat. The country went through a major famine in the 1990s.
