0:53Now PlayingA few minutes after arriving in a New York courtroom Friday, Donald Trump got up and left as closing statements began in the defamation trial to determine how much he must pay writer E. Jean Carroll in damages.
With a scowl on his face, Trump stalked out of the room as Carroll’s lawyer was in the process of telling the jury that the former president continues to defame her. Trump’s departure drew the ire of US District Judge Lewis Kaplan, who noted for the record that Trump had left and ordered his lawyers to remain in place.
It wasn’t the first conflict of the day. Trump and his main attorney, Alina Habba, were late for the start of court proceedings. After that, the judge threatened to put Habba behind bars if she kept interrupting him.
