YouTube Description
as posted by the channelThe mayor of a NYC suburb where cost of living is high but wages are not is using tools like guaranteed income to fight poverty.
Mount Vernon, New York, doesn’t boast the same wealth as its surrounding Westchester County towns, though its proximity to New York City makes housing expensive.
At 4.4 square miles and with a population of roughly 75,000, the city is too small to have an expansive social safety net like its massive neighbor to the south. Those circumstances mean poverty and the fight against it look different in the New York City suburb than it does in the surrounding area.
