The two-day extension came after “significant progress” in discussions, the university’s student newspaper reported, citing a statement from an administrator early Wednesday. Prior to the decision, some demonstrators worried the school would send in police to clear their encampment a week after more than 100 were arrested.
Student representatives have agreed to four commitments with Columbia, according to the Columbia Spectator. They include committing to remove a significant number of tents, ensuring that only Columbia students remain in the encampment, adhering to New York fire safety standards and prohibiting discriminatory or harassing language at the encampment.
