Details of the agreement were still unclear, including how many of the hostages captured after Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023 may be released. A formal announcement is seen as imminent, said the people, who asked not to be identified speaking before an official statement.
President-elect Donald Trump, whose envoy was involved in the latest conversations, announced on Truth Social that the hostages “will be released shortly.” He took credit for the deal, saying it could have only happened with his November election victory, even though he has yet to take office.
