The US, the most powerful country on Earth, would take over the Gaza Strip after a year and a half of devastating war, remove its damaged buildings and unexploded ordnance, and rebuild the place, Trump said on Feb. 4. Meanwhile, he said, Gazans should be taken in by neighboring countries and given access to lives so “beautiful” they wouldn’t want to return.
But for the US to take control of the Gaza Strip would be anything but simple. And the idea of relocating the area’s residents to neighboring countries is not only rejected by those states, it’s highly controversial among Gazans and in the Arab world.
