US employment data released on Friday pointed to an economy where companies are still hiring and wages are ticking higher.
About 151,000 jobs were added in February with robust hiring in sectors such as health care, finance, transportation and even manufacturing (which added 10,000 jobs, having shed roles in January and December).
But that might be as good as it gets, at least for a while. President Donald Trump’s barrage of policy announcements since taking office, including Elon Musk’s push to find $1 trillion in public spending cuts, coupled with rolling tariff shocks, are expected to start affecting the job numbers soon.
