as posted by the channelVice President JD Vance said that Denmark “hasn’t done a good job at keeping Greenland safe” as he toured a military facility in Greenland on Friday afternoon, as President Donald Trump reiterated his desire for the US to take control of the remote and resource-rich Arctic island as US territory.
“Our message to Denmark is very simple: You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland, you have under invested in the people of Greenland, and you have under-invested in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful land mass, filled with incredible people,” Vance said.
The broadside against a longtime NATO ally came as Greenland formed a government that excludes the hardliners seeking fast independence. The new prime minister and winner of March elections, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, has spelled out clearly that Greenland isn’t for sale.
But back in Washington, Trump said the US needed control of Greenland “for international security.”
“We have to have Greenland,” Trump said. At the Pituffik Space Base, Vance said the president believed “this island is not safe.”
