Israel signaled its readiness to resume talks on Sunday by dispatching envoys to Qatar, where Hamas maintains an office. Israel’s move coincides with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s trip to Washington for a meeting on Monday with Trump, their third since the president returned to the White House.
Trump stoked expectations of a breakthrough by announcing Israel’s acceptance of the proposed truce, intended as a path toward a permanent end to hostilities. Hamas welcomed the initiative, but, according to Netanyahu’s office, seeks changes to the proposal which are “unacceptable to Israel.”
