0:40Now PlayingA US Army sergeant opened fire on five fellow soldiers inside a secure building at Fort Stewart in Georgia on Wednesday, using a personal handgun in an attack that raised immediate questions about how he got the weapon onto the base.
Sergeant Quornelius Samentrio Radford was quickly tackled by soldiers nearby and taken into custody by military police. He’s being held in pretrial confinement while the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division reviews possible charges.
The shooting unfolded just before 11 a.m. inside the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team complex, a restricted part of the base where Radford worked as an automated logistics specialist. Three of the victims required surgery at the base hospital; two were later transferred to a trauma center in Savannah. All five are expected to recover, Army officials said.
