0:53Now PlayingPresident Donald Trump said he believed NATO nations should shoot down Russian aircraft that violated their airspace but hedged on providing US support for such a response following recent incursions that have alarmed allies.
“Yes, I do,” Trump said when asked directly by a reporter if NATO allies should take down Russian aircraft, as he met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.
When asked if the US would back up its NATO allies in such a situation, however, Trump said it “depends on the circumstance.”
