Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday said visa-free entry to the country will be soon granted for Chinese citizens.

"The further strengthening of contacts between our peoples will undoubtedly be facilitated by our Chinese friends' decision to introduce a visa-free regime for Russian citizens," said Putin at a Moscow meeting with China's Prime Minister Li Qiang.

He added that "in gratitude for this gesture of goodwill, mirror measures for citizens of the People's Republic of China visiting Russia will come into effect in the very near future."
