Oregon officials urged residents to be calm and called for Immigration and Customs Enforcement to cease operations after a federal agent shot and wounded two people in southeast Portland.

The Department of Homeland Security said a Border Patrol agent fired a defensive shot at a vehicle after the driver weaponized it and drove off, and the two people in the car were undocumented Venezuelan migrants.

Mayor Keith Wilson and Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield demanded a full and independent investigation of the shooting, with Wilson saying the community deserves answers, accountability, and peace.
