as posted by the channelPresident Donald Trump urged Iranians to continue protests against the government of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, telling them “help is on the way,” as senior US officials planned to discuss Iran during a White House meeting on Tuesday.
“To all Iranian patriots — keep protesting, take over your institutions if possible,” Trump said in a speech in Detroit, adding that activists should “save the name of the killers and the abusers” suppressing the protests “because they’ll pay a very big price.”
Vice President JD Vance was set to chair a White House National Security Council meeting later on Tuesday to discuss Iran, a person familiar with the matter said.
Trump’s remarks on Iran echoed a social media post he wrote earlier in the day encouraging the protesters, and his announcement Monday that the US would impose a 25% tariff on any country that does business with Iran. Trump didn’t say what else the US might do in response, after he told reporters earlier that his administration was looking at “some very strong options.”
