Democrat senator Elizabeth Warren asked Bessent to commit that Kevin Warsh would not be sued or investigated if he failed to follow the president's lead on setting interest rates.
Bessent described Warsh as "highly qualified" and said a comment by Trump about suing Warsh if he didn't get interest rates down was "a joke."
