Trump said he was in “heated negotiations” involving the war with Iran after Pakistan, in the role of mediator, asked for a two-week extension of his Tuesday deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The president earlier Tuesday threatened to wipe out Iran’s “whole civilization” as the US continued attacks on the country’s main oil export facility. That prompted Iranian negotiators to halt their participation in diplomatic discussions, according to a person familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified discussing private deliberations.
