The ballroom, if it is built, is expected to be used for state dinners and other presidential events planned by the White House, and GOP Senators plan to try and pass standalone legislation to build the ballroom with taxpayer funds.
The bill would authorize $400 million for the ballroom to be paid for by revenue from customs fees, as well as private donations, according to Senator Lindsey Graham.
