The vessel, M/T Celestial Sea, was “suspected of attempting to violate the US blockade by transiting toward an Iranian port,” US Central Command said in an announcement. Following a search of the vessel, American forces released it and directed the crew to alter course.
An ongoing US blockade of Iran-linked vessels has kept tankers from Kharg Island, Iran’s main export facility. US Central Command said Wednesday that American forces have to date redirected 91 ships as part of the effort.
