Pentagon officials had previously told Congress in mid-May that the Iran war had cost around $29 billion — a figure that did not account for damage to US bases, and which many analysts assessed as being too low.
He said President Trump deserved "praise" for the military operation despite the deaths of 18 US service members, including three over the weekend.
