The Alpha Arena contest, which pitted eight major AI systems against each other, resulted in the portfolio as a whole losing about a third of its capital, with a model finishing in profit only six times out of 32 sets of results.
Experts say LLMs are not yet ready to replace human fund managers, as they tend to mistime trades, incorrectly size positions, and buy and sell too often, and require a sophisticated harness and scaffolding to even have a chance at making money.
