Producer Alana Feld is attempting to bring the circus into the 21st century with sci-fi storylines, a Ringling Brothers app, and perhaps most importantly, the retirement of the show’s Asian elephants, long awaited by animal rights activists. But the circus just wouldn’t be the circus without a host of impressive creatures, and the show’s 75 remaining animals continue to draw crowds of both delighted spectators and furious demonstrators.
