He’ll be New York’s first Muslim mayor and the first person of South Asian descent to lead the city in its 400-year history. Now, Mamdani faces the challenge of making his campaign pledges a reality and winning over skeptics, including Wall Street. Mamdani also may have to contend with President Donald Trump, who has already pledged to punish the city for choosing a self-described democratic socialist.
