15:01Now PlayingNew York City Mayor Eric Adams should step down after the Trump administration ordered prosecutors to drop their corruption charges against him, City Comptroller Brad Lander said.
Lander, who plans to challenge Adams in the mayoral primary later this year, said Adams is now more beholden to President Donald Trump than to the interests of his own constituents.
A high-ranking official for the Justice Department made the demand of Manhattan prosecutors Monday, claiming the case against Adams was politically motivated and is preventing him from tackling immigration and violent crime.
“He should resign,” Lander said of Adams in an interview Tuesday with Bloomberg Radio. “He’s effectively being extorted by the Justice Department. He’s only looking out for the interests of one New Yorker, and that’s himself, not even speaking up when they come to take our lunch money.”
Mr. Lander also expounds on his own mayoral platform, weighing in on key issues facing New Yorkers such as crime prevention, immigration and congestion pricing. Mr. Lander speaks with Tom Keene and David Gura on Bloomberg Surveillance.
