8:19Now PlayingVice President JD Vance said that Denmark “hasn’t done a good job at keeping Greenland safe” as he toured a military facility in Greenland on Friday afternoon, as President Donald Trump reiterated his desire for the US to take control of the remote and resource-rich Arctic island as US territory.
“Our message to Denmark is very simple: You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland, you have under invested in the people of Greenland, and you have under-invested in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful land mass, filled with incredible people,” Vance said.
The broadside against a longtime NATO ally came as Greenland formed a government that excludes the hardliners seeking fast independence. The new prime minister and winner of March elections, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, has spelled out clearly that Greenland isn’t for sale.
