• Tesla (TSLA) shares fell in early trading Monday with President Donald Trump's auto tariffs looming and ahead of the electric vehicle giant releasing its first-quarter delivery figures Wednesday. Tesla snapped its nine-week losing streak last week, but it remains down roughly 35% year-to-date entering the trading day.
• Nvidia (NVDA) dropped in the premarket following a disappointing IPO from CoreWeave, the cloud-computing provider it has been backing. The AI startup began trading Friday and shares fell below its offering price of $40. Nvidia's stock price had been down 18% on the year coming into Monday.
• Newmont Corp. (NEM) shares are rising as gold hit a fresh record Monday, rising above $3,100 an ounce for the first time. Investors have been favoring more defensive market plays amid policy uncertainty surrounding US tariffs.
• Moderna (MRNA) shares declined in premarket trading following the resignation of Dr. Peter Marks, who had led the US Food and Drug Administration's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research. Marks was a key figure in the quick approvals of Covid vaccines during the pandemic. He had also championed a faster and more flexible approach to approving new treatments for rare diseases, particularly genetic medicines that can potentially cure those disorders in a single dose. The news sent shock waves across the biotech industry.
