6:44Now PlayingNew York City Mayor Eric Adams is set to unveil his $115 billion re-election year fiscal plan Thursday — billing it as the “best budget ever.”
The proposed 2026 Executive Budget will set aside nearly $200 million for education programs previously funded by federal COVID-19-era stimulus cash, and allocate $1.4 billion to protect programs that weren’t previously funded in the upcoming fiscal year. That includes more than $675 million in new permanent funding, according to City Hall.
New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, who is among the challengers to Adams in the mayoral primary later this year, called the incumbent's budget "preposterous," and says he believes it's a case of Adams "trying to campaign."
Lander also comments on the city's finances more broadly including his continued support of congestion pricing, what the policies of President Donald Trump could mean for the local economy going forward, and how he plans to make New York a safer and more affordable metropolis if elected. Mr. Lander joins Tom Keene and Paul Sweeney on Bloomberg Surveillance.
