Estonia summoned Russia’s top diplomat in the country as it accused the Kremlin of violating the Baltic nation’s airspace in an “unprecedentedly brazen” move.
Three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace over the Gulf of Finland without permission for a total of 12 minutes on Friday, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said in an emailed statement.
It was Russia’s fourth incursion into Estonia this year and the third airspace violation of a NATO member state this month — after incidents in Poland and Romania. Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s top diplomat and a former Estonian prime minister, called the incident “an extremely dangerous provocation” in a post on X.
