US Airline Disruptions Another 'Step In The Wrong Direction': Senator Mike Rounds

Airlines across the US have begun canceling flights scheduled for the coming days, as the longest government shutdown in history disrupts air travel and leaves thousands of passengers scrambling to firm up plans.

With more than 700 Friday flights already canceled by the four largest airlines, the world’s busiest aviation market has become a flashpoint in the long-simmering clash between Republicans and Democrats over federal funding, with President Donald Trump ramping up pressure to forge a deal.

The US Transportation Department and Federal Aviation Administration announced on Wednesday that they would order airlines to cut 10% of flight capacity across 40 major airports, in an effort to relieve pressure on the aviation system during the ongoing shutdown.

Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD) discusses the FAA announcing flight cuts if the government shutdown is not resolved by Friday and states this is "one more step in the wrong direction." Senator Rounds talks about what conversations are happening to try to reopen the government, his thoughts on a federal judge ordering the President to fully fund food aid, and how he plans to vote later on the War Powers Resolution. He speaks with Joe Mathieu and Tyler Kendall on the late edition of Bloomberg's "Balance of Power."
