A delegation of top US military officials arrived in Ukraine for talks on ways to ramp up pressure against Russia, as President Donald Trump’s team looks to renew its faltering push for a peace deal to end the war.
The delegation, led by Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll, will discuss ways to force Russia to end the fighting, according to a person familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified discussing private deliberations. Joining him are General Randy George, the Army chief of staff, and General Chris Donahue, the US Army commander for Europe.
The Pentagon declined to comment on details of the trip but the presence of top Army staff signaled that the Trump administration is looking for new ways to cooperate with Ukrainian forces on the battlefield. At the same time, the White House is giving fresh signals that it’s looking to regain momentum for possible peace talks.
