0:42Now PlayingA giant Iranian flag was carried aloft during a rally in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday as demonstrators gathered to show support for protesters in Iran. Marchers assembled near City Hall, with aerial footage showing crowds waving a pre-Islamic Revolution Iranian flag and setting off flares as police monitored the protest. Many participants were members of the Iranian diaspora. Los Angeles is home to the largest Iranian community outside of Iran. Protests in Iran that began Dec. 28 over an ailing economy and morphed into protests directly challenging the country’s theocracy seem to have stopped. While the protests have largely subsided and an uneasy calm has settled over much of Iran, internet service has largely been blocked in the country since Jan. 8.
