Oil prices came down slightly but remained high as strikes against energy infrastructure in the Gulf continue to escalate. Brent rose as much as 11%, to top $119.13 a barrel, before easing back from the bulk of those gains to settle up 1.2% at $108.65.
Equities reduced losses, with the S&P 500 paring most of a 1% drop during a volatile day.
