8:44Now PlayingA deal spearheaded by Argentine energy mogul Marcelo Mindlin to restructure one of Brazil’s top cement producers was a unique chance to gain exposure to two of Latin America’s biggest economies, he said in a Bloomberg TV interview.
Mindlin, better known as chairman of Argentina’s Pampa Energia SA, is leading a group of investors and creditors seeking to restructure Brazil’s InterCement, the parent company of Loma Negra SA, which has a roughly 45% share of Argentina’s cement market.
InterCement is under bankruptcy protection in Brazil and part of its $1.8 billion in debt was converted into equity, with Mindlin’s group gaining control after acquiring distressed loans. Now, the firm has about $450 million of debt, including $110 million injected by the new shareholders. “It shows our confidence in the region,” Mindlin said, adding that the deal was a “once in a lifetime opportunity to buy such significant market shares in cement in two countries at the same time.”President Donald Trump reupped his threat of widespread bombing in Iran in the coming hours if Tehran does not agree to US terms to end the war there.
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” he posted on social media.
Conversely, he said new Iranian leaders with “different, smarter, and less radicalized minds” could reach a deal ahead of the 8 p.m. deadline he set earlier this week.
“We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end,” he said.
On Sunday, Trump vowed to destroy civilian infrastructure in Iran, including power plants if a deal wasn’t reached by late Tuesday, New York time, a move that could constitute a war crime.
