Constellation Brands Inc. projected slower-than-expected growth for its beer business this year, renewing concern that declines in alcohol consumption have yet to hit their floor.

Organic beer sales, which measure changes in sales volumes, are seen in a range of down 1% to up 1% in the company’s current year, Constellation said Wednesday. The range trails analysts’ average estimate for a 2.2% increase.

While the guidance represents an improvement from the previous fiscal year, which ended Feb. 28, the lower-than-expected outlook suggests even popular brands such as Modelo and Corona are struggling to sidestep a broader decline in the category.

The stock declined 2% at 4:18 p.m. in extended trading in New York.

Slow demand represents a challenge for incoming Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Fink, who is set to take over next week. Lower drinking rates are being fueled by growing health concerns surrounding alcohol and declining popularity among younger generations.

The company also offered an initial profit outlook that came in below the lowest analyst estimate for the current year, according to data compiled by Bloomberg, and withdrew its previous view for fiscal 2028.

Constellation has streamlined its business to focus more on beer, selling off several wine brands last year. Wine has been especially hard hit by a decline in popularity among younger consumers.

The company’s beer brands, meanwhile, have done better. Modelo has become the top-selling beer in the US, surpassing Bud Light, according to data compiled by Circana.

Beer sales accounted for 91% of Constellation’s sales in fiscal year 2026, with the remainder compromising its wine business.
