- Reddit (RDDT) shares jump. The social media company is set to join the S&P 500 prior to the opening of trading on Aug. 18, according to a news release. Reddit to replace AvalonBay Communities, which is being acquired by Equity Residential.
-Applied Materials (AMAT) shares fall. The semiconductor capital equipment company’s estimate-topping forecast met with tepid investor reaction following the stock’s frenetic rally this year. Analysts are generally positive about the company’s results and forecast, they are optimistic about the AI-driven demand to boosting results.
-Aerovironment (AVAV) shares gain. This comes after the Trump administration said it is applying a 100% tariff on imports of unmanned aircraft systems and their components. Needham analyst Austin Bohlig says the tariff represents another major step in the Administration’s push to rapidly build the US drone industrial base as expanding domestic drone production has become a national priority.
