- Shares of Walmart (WMT) tumbled ahead of the market open after the retail giant’s quarterly sales fell short of expectations, a rare miss that’s likely to stoke concern about the leading big-box retailer decelerating alongside a slow-growing US economy. Sales at US stores open at least a year, excluding fuel, rose 2.6% in the second quarter, shy of the lowest analyst estimate compiled by Bloomberg. That rate of growth — hindered primarily by pricing pressure in its pharmacy business — is the slowest in more than six years.
- Shares of Advanced Auto Parts (AAP) sunk in premarket trading after the parts provider reported second-quarter sales that fell short of analyst estimates. Though the company boosted its adjusted earnings per share forecast for the full year, it maintained its sales guidance, which is also below estimates at the midpoint.
- Shares of Coty (COTY) fell after the beauty conglomerate reported fourth-quarter results. While the company’s net revenue for the quarter beat the average analyst estimate, Coty didn’t provide a full-year forecast and said it expects to provide a broader outlook following a strategic review. The company also reported a wider-than-expected loss, or a one cent earnings per share miss.
