Ferdinand Marcos: The China Threat Has Grown

The Chinese threat in the South China Sea has grown and the Philippines must do more to defend its territory, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. tells Bloomberg Television, before adding that his government’s efforts to assert sovereignty over disputed areas aren’t meant to start a conflict. "We're trying to keep things at a manageable level, to continue the dialogues," he says. Reversing the policies of his predecessor, former President Rodrigo Duterte, Marcos has tightened ties with the US military, giving it greater access to Philippine bases and expanding joint exercises and patrols.
