A site near Pensacola, Florida may have received close to 10 inches. The deep freeze is also straining power supplies across the eastern US with electricity consumption reaching an all-time winter high.
A cold blast gripping the US South threatens to bring record-breaking snowfall to New Orleans and Houston and a deep freeze that endangers oil and natural gas output and electrical grids.
