President Donald Trump says Vice President JD Vance's upcoming trip to Greenland is about "friendliness, not provocation." Trump said the US delegation was invited. Vance and his wife have scaled back plans for the trip, but they will visit a US military base in the Danish territory. Trump has for months insisted the US needs control over Greenland for national security purposes, triggering a diplomatic crisis with Copenhagen.

He called U.S. control of the island that is part of the Kingdom of Denmark important for national security.
