Jerome Powell cited continued weakness in the labor market, particularly the low pace of hiring. That outweighed renewed tensions between the US and China, with President Trump threatening to boycott Chinese cooking oil in the latest salvo of the trade war.
Also on the program, ASML's third quarter orders beat estimates, as bumper AI investment fuels demand for its chip-making machines. And LVMH reports a surprise return to growth in a sign that demand for luxury is picking up again.
