Spot gold traded near $4,140 an ounce after tumbling in the previous session, the biggest intraday drop in more than a dozen years.

Senate Democratic leaders have asked to meet with President Donald Trump before his Asia trip, but Trump said he would only talk to them after the shutdown ends.
