50:05Now PlayingWe are live from Singapore for the 2025 edition of Bloomberg New Economy Forum, where business executives have urged caution on tech and warned investors to brace for further losses. Nvidia’s results, due after the US market close Wednesday, are seen as a bellwether for whether lofty valuations and massive capital spending in AI remain justified. Goldman Sachs President John Waldron said “technicals are kind of more biased for more protection, and more downside.” Atlas Merchant Capital’s Bob Diamond branded the turmoil as a “healthy correction.” AZ-VC Managing Director Jack Selby tells Francine we are in a AI bubble, recalling the early days of PayPal, and said productivity gain from AI technology remains difficult to measure at the moment.
Meanwhile, China escalated its retaliation against Japan, suspending imports of Japanese seafood and halting approvals for new films. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told reporters that Japan had not met the conditions for resuming seafood shipments. The move comes just months after Beijing lifted a similar ban. Relations between the two neighbors have soured after Sanae Takaichi became the first sitting Japanese leader in decades to publicly link a Taiwan Strait crisis with the possible deployment of Japanese troops, and a meeting aimed at easing tensions between the two country's diplomats appeared to have made little progress.
Today's guests: Mohamed Kande, PwC Global Chairman; Jack Selby, AZ-VC Managing Partner; Brad Rogoff, Barclays; Helene Budliger Artieda, Switzerland State Secretariat for Economic Affairs Director
