Currently, it is not illegal to rape men under Indian law. This may sound hard to believe, but it is true- the laws are written in such a way that men are not protected from sexual assault.

This is because in 2013, feminist groups protested against a government proposal to make rape protection laws gender neutral:

In other words, the only change would have been to help men to. The feminist groups claimed that male rapists would be able to use "false accusations" to escape prosecution- basically repeating the same argument they claim doesn't exist in the first place.

This decision was recently upheld earlier this year, and feminist groups again opposed recognition for male victims of rape:
