As for the MRA tie-in, it's societal pressure a man would feel to drive at and defend a property. It's a way men are judged subconsciously by other humans that women are exempt from. It's archaic and evolutionary, but still true.
I also wonder if Kyle was a woman, would the reaction from the media be different?
